A cookie is a small text file a website asks your browser to store. This policy explains which cookies we use, what they do and how to control them. It should be read with our Privacy Policy.
Section 11 of POPIA requires a lawful basis for processing, and the guidance of the Information Regulator treats non-essential cookies as requiring consent. We therefore set only strictly necessary cookies until you tell us otherwise.
1The categories we use
1.1Strictly necessary. Cookies without which the site cannot work: keeping you signed in to a store account, remembering the contents of your basket, carrying a checkout session between pages, and protecting forms against cross-site request forgery. These are set without consent because the service you asked for cannot be delivered without them.
1.2Preference. Cookies that remember a choice you made, such as dismissing the cookie notice itself. Set only after you have made the choice.
1.3Analytics. Cookies that tell us, in aggregate, which pages are visited and where visitors leave. We use these to improve the site. They are set only with your consent, and the data is aggregated rather than used to identify you.
1.4Marketing. Cookies that would allow advertising to be targeted to you across other sites. We do not currently set any marketing cookies. If that changes, this policy will be updated and consent will be sought before any such cookie is set.
2What each cookie does and how long it lasts
2.1boan_session. Strictly necessary. Carries your session between pages so a form or a basket survives navigation. Expires when you close the browser.
2.2boan_cart. Strictly necessary. Remembers the contents of your basket on the store. Expires after 30 days.
2.3boan_auth. Strictly necessary. Keeps you signed in to your store account. Expires after 30 days, or when you sign out.
2.4boan_csrf. Strictly necessary. Protects forms against cross-site request forgery. Expires when you close the browser.
2.5boan_consent. Preference. Records the cookie choices you made, so we do not ask again on every page. Expires after 12 months.
2.6Analytics cookies. Set by our analytics provider only after you consent. They record pages viewed, approximate region and device type. Typically expire after 13 months. Withdrawing consent stops them being set and you may delete existing ones in your browser.
3Cookies set by others
3.1Our payment provider sets cookies during checkout that are necessary to process the payment and to detect fraud. We do not control those cookies and they are governed by that provider's own policy.
3.2Where a page embeds content hosted elsewhere, such as a video, that provider may set its own cookies when the content loads. We embed such content only where it is needed, and we prefer providers that do not set cookies until the content is played.
4How to control cookies
4.1You may change or withdraw your choices at any time through the cookie notice on the site. Withdrawal takes effect immediately and does not affect anything processed before it.
4.2Every major browser lets you see the cookies stored, delete them, block them from particular sites, or block them all. The relevant setting is usually under Privacy or Site Settings.
4.3Blocking strictly necessary cookies will stop parts of the site from working: you will not be able to sign in, keep a basket or complete a purchase. Blocking the other categories has no effect on functionality.
4.4Cookies are per browser and per device. A choice made in one browser does not carry to another.
5Similar technologies
5.1We use local storage in the same way and for the same purposes as strictly necessary cookies, principally to hold a basket between visits.
5.2We do not use tracking pixels or web beacons in our marketing email beyond the delivery and bounce reporting our email provider performs in order to send the message reliably.
6Changes to this policy
6.1We review this policy whenever we add or remove a cookie. The version in force is the one published on our website, and its effective date appears at the head of this document.
